Ecommerce performance: Are you meeting the benchmark?

Posted by Fionna Soekamto on 06. April 2023

Don't settle for mediocrity. See how your eCommerce business measures against top-performing retailers by comparing your performance to our benchmarks across various categories from fashion and beauty to sports and hobbies. We also touch on why these metrics matter!

The e-commerce benchmarks

We conducted a comprehensive analysis of a diverse group of our customers across various retail categories, including Baby & Kids, Fashion, Food & Drink, Hair & Beauty, Homeware, Jewellery, and Sports & Hobbies.

We calculated yearly averages across five key metrics that indicate whether an eCommerce business is performing well.

To ensure accuracy, we have excluded the years 2020-2021, which were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and forced both eCommerce and physical businesses to reconsider their strategies and quickly adapt to a new environment.

Metrics The growth you should have expected (2019 vs 2022) Purpose of the metric
Average sessions +86.55% It indicates the period of time a user interacts with your website. By understanding how shoppers engage with your products and brand, you can make data-driven decisions that optimise your website's design, functionality, and content.
Average transactions +112.56% It indicates the purchases made by users during a specified period. Spot trends in purchase frequency and purchase value for valuable insights that can inform your marketing and sales strategies.
Average conversion rate +20.44% It’s the percentage of website visitors who complete a desired action, such as making a purchase, filling out a form, or subscribing to a newsletter. This metric shows how effective your website is at converting visitors into customers.
Average revenue +145.75% It’s the money generated by your business from sales during a specific period. By tracking revenue and other key metrics, such as average order value and customer lifetime value, you can make informed decisions about your marketing, pricing, and product strategies.
Average order value +13.78% It’s the amount of money customers spend per transaction on your website. This metric helps you evaluate the effectiveness of your upselling and cross-selling techniques, pricing strategies, and promotions, as well as gain insights into customer preferences and purchasing habits for certain product categories.
